The Squires Gate

The Squires Gate factory and airfield at Blackpool was a possible replacement for Langley after its closure was forced by the development of the nearby Heathrow Airport. For a time Sopwith considered moving the entire Hawker operation to Blackpool. Eventually however the company moved back into Ham Works on Richmond Road although Squires Gate was leased for production of the Hawker Hunter.
